Like proper diet, proper sleep is also essential for the maintenance of the body. Corpulence and emaciation are specially conditioned by proper or improper sleep and diet.

Ayurveda consider Health and Disease both as the products of food and life style. Today when population is moving with modernization in the 21st century a lot of new diseases emerge out due to faulty life style, improper diet, unhealthy food, lack of exercise, mental stress, and lack of sleep. INDIGESTION (Ajirna) is one of the most common disease which is originate from digestive insufficiency (Agni) due to all above factors of modern Era.
We all know how it feels when our stomach isn't doing great. Indigestion is a common problem, and it makes us feel full even when we haven't eaten anything. It causes fullness, pain, heaviness and even nausea if not treated well. Being one of the most common problems, indigestion has numerous causes including over-eating, stomach infections, ulcers, acidity, smoking, alcohol, thyroid, irritable bowel syndrome, excess intake of fatty or spicy foods and stress among others. It is imperative to understand the condition and choose ayurvedic remedies for the same.
Whether it is heartburn, stomach ache, malabsorption, constipation, diarrhea, bloating, gas, ulceration or other GI conditions, most people experience some manifestation of indigestion (ajirna) in their lives.
Acidity is another such problem that arises due to unhealthy eating and lifestyle habits. It is a condition where the acid levels in your stomach increase. When one suffers from this condition, it is important to get treated to avoid all the uncomfortable symptoms, such as constipation, indigestion, vomiting, a feeling of restlessness, etc. For a complete cure in an all-natural way, it is best that you opt for acidity treatment in Ayurveda. It will not only help provide relief but will also enhance your health.

A few Ayurvedic remedies for acidity are:
Drink tender coconut water twice a day.
Take unrefined sugar, green cardamom, and fennel seeds in equal parts. Grind it into a fine powder. Whenever you experience the acidity or heartburn, consume this powder in a glass of cold milk.
Take equal parts of cumin seeds and coriander seeds. Now, mix it with equal amounts of sugar. i.e. the cumin-coriander and sugar ratio must be 1:1. Put the mixture in a grinder and powder it finely. Consume this mixture twice a day to get rid of acidity.
Let us see how to prevent indigestion:

- Spend some time to plan your diet and relish the food in peace of mind. Never eat in a hurry.
- Chew your food properly.
- Always prefer light food and in moderate quantity. It is advisable to eat only 3/4th of your stomach capacity, never eat full stomach.
- Regularly use jeera, pepper, asafoetida, garlic and ginger in your cooking. Reduce the usage of green chilly, choose dry red chilli or pepper.
- Replace curds with buttermilk.
- Drink water sip by sip along with the meal. Always luke warm water is preferred if you have weak digestion.
- Chew a small piece of fresh ginger with pinch of salt just before meals.
- Prepare your food fresh and eat it when it is still warm.
- Eat the fruits along with the meal, so you will automatically reduce the quantity of main meal, which helps you to maintain ideal body weight.
- Finish your dinner at least 2 hours before going to bed. Keep your dinner very light.
- Maintain at least 3-4 hours gap between the meals.
- Never suppress natural urges. Attend to your nature calls wisely
- Yoga aasanas like Suryanamaskar, Vajrasana, Bhujangasana, Dhanurasana, Pavanamukthasana, and pranayama is also good.
Management:

- The first line of treatment for all types of indigestion is Langhana (fasting). Skip the meal if you feel your previous food is not digested and eat only when you feel hungry.
- If you are feeling nauseous or vomiting, vomit it out. Never suppress the sensation by taking antiemetic drugs. To ease vomiting, you can drink 2 large glasses of lukewarm water with ½ spoon of rock salt.
- If you are having pain and gaseous distension of the abdomen, keep hot water bag on your abdomen for few minutes.
- Chew ½ tsp of jeera with pinch of salt and asafoetida, followed by cup of hot water.
- Dry roast equal quantity of fennel seeds, coriander seeds and jeera. Grind to a fine powder and take ½ tsp of this powder with warm water thrice a day.
- Boil 1 tsp of ajwain in 1 liter of water, fill it in a flask and keep sipping this water often.
- Ginger has long been associated with curing indigestion and is a popular ingredient in every households. It contains antioxidants including gingerols that are known for relieving indigestion and nausea. Its phenolic compounds are believed to reduce gastric contractions and relieve gastrointestinal irritations.
- Coriander seeds or dhaniya seeds are known for their antispasmodic and anti-inflammatory properties that relieve you from an upset stomach or indigestion, further stimulating your digestive process.
- Indian gooseberry or amla has various aphrodisiac, diuretic, laxative, carminative, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and antiviral properties. These properties help stimulate your digestive process, further curing indigestion, heartburn or acidity.
- Various ayurvedic formulations like Jeerakadi arishtta, Draksharishtta, Pippaliyady gritam, Agnitundi vati, Hingwashtaka churna, Gandharvahasthaady kashayam may be used after appropriate consultation.

Fresh Ginger Tea
Ginger is an invigorating tonic for warmth, digestive regulation and general health.
Ingredients
- 4 cups water
- 2 inches fresh ginger root, cut into thin slices
- Tea leaves
- Sugar as required
Preparation
Boil the water and ginger, then simmer for 10 to 15 minutes,then add tea leaves and sugar as required.Strain and drink at any temperature.
